1
NALEDI core

Need

High school, university students and interns’ IQ is often undermined by a low EQ
(emotional intelligence). A consistently better EQ will enable a consistently improved
performance – academically, socially, emotionally.

STRATEGY

Building youth from the inside out (NALEDI CORE) with a more diverse range of school
& post-school youth.

PRogramme

6 workshops & 6 group-coaching sessions.

growth

3 new schools to run the NALEDI programme with Grade 10 learners in township high
schools that DELIVER has not worked in before. This extends DELIVER’s impact into
new township areas.

SUSTAINABILITY

DELIVER has previously worked with the principals of these schools, so it has a strong
working relationship with each school already

2
R50 BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Need

In a tough economic environment, formal employment is harder to find – South African
youth need skills to employ themselves and create economic value that matches their
self-worth. Basic business skills are life skills.

STRATEGY

Develop basic business skills, as well as teamwork, Resilience, Resourcefulness
and Responsibility.

PRogramme

4 week micro-business run in groups of 4.

Success

We ran the challenge as part of NALEDI CORE for 4 years from 2015. The best result
was a team of 4 girls that generated R1550.

Process

• School learners that have shown dedication and potential in the NALEDI CORE
program are selected for this 4 week programme.
• Learners are put into groups of 4 to run a micro business – they receive R50 startup
capital. Before they start, everyone involved receives a workshop about managing
and making Money, and each team has to design and present their business plan to
the other teams.
• Each group receives coaching each week to help it think through its challenges and
opportunities and account for its weekly costs and income.

SUSTAINABILITY

When the challenge ends, the team with the most net profit receives an award. Each
team keeps half of their net profit. The remainder goes to DELIVER.

3
NALEDI WORK

Need

Many people in the workplace have unresolved emotional and life issues that
compromise their professional development and performance

STRATEGY

More focus on improving the systems that support youth empowerment -capacitating
teachers, principals, NPOs

PRogramme

2 hour workshops on personal development, team and leadership.

4
NALEDI LEADER

Need

Many people in positions of leadership and management are promoted into these roles
without sufficient training and support.

PRogramme

  • One on one coaching: for self-awareness, problem-solving and commitment to
    behaviour change.
  •  2-3 hr workshops: addressing core leadership skills: delegation, staff
development, relationship management, implementing systems, accountability,
    personal organisation

Growth

Building on the pilot programme run in 2024 in partnership with Global Teachers Institute
(GTI), DELIVER plans to scale up this programme. Second Phase of this programme –
with 7 new principals – will be run in Mpumalanga province.

SUSTAINABILITY

Principals will be from schools where Global Teachers Institute (a DELIVER partner) has
already established MOU’s and trainee teachers in place.
